DepEd Order 003, s. 2024

Amendment to DepEd Order No. 022, s. 2023

(Implementing Guidelines on the School Calendar and Activities for the School Year 2023-2024)

DepEd Order No. 003, s. 2024, serves as an amendment to DepEd Order No. 022, s. 2023, focusing on the implementation guidelines for the school calendar and activities for the school year 2023-2024. The memorandum emphasizes DepEd's commitment to prioritizing learners' and teachers' health, safety, and well-being. It responds to the call to revert the school calendar to its pre-pandemic opening, based on extensive consultations and a study conducted by the Philippine Normal University. The amendments include changes to the end of the school year date, revisions in the school awards committee deliberation, and adjustments to the end of the school year break. Additionally, the memorandum provides details on the monthly school calendar, additional provisions for the school year, prohibition of tasks for teachers during a specific period, and continuation of unaffected provisions from the previous order. It concludes with directives for immediate dissemination and compliance.

1. In line with the commitment of the Department of Education (DepEd) articulated in the MATATAG Agenda to “TAkegood care of learners by promoting learner well-being, inclusive education, and a positive learning environment,” this Department places the highest priority on ensuring the health, safety, and well-being of learners and teachers.

2. To ensure that this commitment is fulfilled, DepEd recognizes the clamor to gradually revert the school calendar to the pre-pandemic opening of classes. Alongside the resounding consensus from extensive consultations with teachers, learners, and relevant stakeholders, the same call is echoed by the findings of the study conducted by the Philippine Normal University (PNU) titled Analysis of the Basic Education School Year Calendar in the Philippines: Inputs to Policy (PNU, 2023).
