2023 NUTRITION MONTH CELEBRATION

1. Pursuant to Presidential Decree No. 491, s. 1974, July was declared as Nutrition Month and shall be celebrated every year to raise public awareness about the value of good nutrition. Relative thereto, the National Nutrition Council (NNC), announced the 2023 Nutrition Month Celebration (NMC) with the theme, Healthy Diet Gawing Affordable for All! This year's nutrition month campaign calls for unity and strengthened food and nutrition security policies and programs that will enable Filipinos to have greater access to healthy, safe, and affordable food.
2. The national celebration is in line with the Philippine Development Plan's targets of improving the access of Filipino consumers to affordable, safe, and nutritious food and attaining a sufficient and stable supply of food commodities.
3. The celebration aims to
a. engage consumers to support improvements in levels of diet quality towards sustainable healthy diets,
b. generate stakeholders' participation at various levels on actions towards enabling access to affordable sustainable healthy diets, and
c. call support for the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (PPAN) 2023-2028 as the framework for action to improve nutrition security.
4. To promote public awareness about this celebration, all Department of Education (DepEd) offices, including the Central, regional, schools division offices, and schools are encouraged to support the 2023 NMC by undertaking related activities, such as but not limited to:
a. utilizing online and other media platforms through active use, posting, and sharing of the 2023 NMC campaign and advocacy materials in all DepEd offices' websites and social media accounts; and
b. conceptualizing own relevant activities for learners and their families such as seminars, webinars, lectures, and exhibits.
5. Materials related to the celebration may be accessed at the National Nutrition Council's official websites: www.nnc.gov.ph and www.facebook.com/nncofficial.
6. Regional and division offices shall upload the narrative and pictorial report on the highlights of the 2023 NMC to https://bit.ly/DEPED2023NMC on or before August 30, 2023. Reports uploaded shall be incorporated in the Oplan Kalusugan sa DepEd (OK sa DepEd) progress and accomplishment reports for submission by the regional health and nutrition personnel to the Bureau of Learner Support Services-School Health Division (BLSS-SHD).
7. Actions to achieve the 2023 NMC objectives are expected to be sustained throughout the year.
