DEFERMENT OF THE PHILIPPINES' HOSTING OF THE 12TH ASEAN SCHOOLS GAMES

1. The Department of Education (DepEd) announced through Department Memorandum (DM) No. 36, s. 2022 the Rescheduling of the Philippines' Hosting of the 12th ASEAN Schools Games and DM 42, s. 2022 titled Philippines' Participation and Selection of the Members of the Delegation to the 12th ASEAN Schools Games.
2. However, based on the objective assessment of the current COVID-19 Pandemic situation, as well as its impact on Philippine economy, the Department announces the deferment of the Philippines' hosting of this year's international school sports competition participated by the ASEAN School Sports Council (ASSC) member-countries.
3. At present, the Philippines is experiencing another surge in COVID-19 cases with the detection of a significant number of Omicron BA.5 subvariant by the Department of Health. Moreover, the impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic on the country's economy has affected the capability to host the international school sports event.
4. The National Executive Committee (NEC) and the different technical working committees constituted for the hosting of the 12th ASEAN Schools Games (ASG) are hereby retracted.
5. Further, all scheduled activities leading to the 12th ASG are suspended.
6. All related issuances inconsistent with this Memorandum are repealed, rescinded, and modified accordingly.
7. Immediate dissemination of this Memorandum is desired.
