NATIONAL BIOTECHNOLOGY WEEK 2025 CELEBRATION

1. The National Biotechnology Week (NBW), established under Presidential Proclamation No. 1414, s. 2007, is an annual event originally celebrated during the last week of November. It highlights advancements, innovations, and contributions of biotechnology in agriculture, healthcare, environment, and industry. The event serves as a platform for collaboration among academia, government, industry, and the public to promote awareness and foster innovation.
2. Presidential Proclamation No. 921, s. 2025 amended Proclamation No. 1414, s. 2007, by moving the observance of NBW from the fourth week of November to the fourth week of September each year, in alignment with Global Biotech Week. It also reconstituted the National Biotechnology Week Inter-Agency Steering Committee, now composed of the heads of eight government agencies: Department of Education (DepEd), Department of Agriculture (DA), Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), Department of Health (DOH), Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), Department of Science and Technology (DOST), Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), and Commission on Higher Education (CHED), with the Chairperson and Co-Chairperson rotating annually among them.
3. For 2025, DepEd has been designated as the host agency of the NBW celebration, which will be held on September 22 to 24, 2025, with the theme: gAInBiotech: growing Artificial Intelligence, nurturing Biotechnology. The theme highlights the synergy between artificial intelligence and biotechnology in driving innovation, growth, and sustainable societal solutions.
4. The NBW 2025 Celebration shall include the following activities

5. The mechanics for the guidance of the participants are enclosed as follows:
a. Enclosure No. 1: Biotech Brain Triathlon
b. Enclosure No. 2: Digital Poster-Making Contest
c. Enclosure No. 3: Parental Consent Form
d. Enclosure No. 4: Learner Media Release Consent Form
6. The DepEd participants for the NBW 2025 Celebration shall consist of
a. ten identified SHS learners,
b. two teachers/coaches, and
c. one supervisor per region, including the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.
These participants will take part in the Biotech Brian Triathlon and Digital Poster Making Contest. Travel and incidental expenses incurred by the participants from each region shall be charged to the Basic Education Curriculum Funds, subject to the usual accounting and auditing rules and regulations:
7. The Schools Division Office (SDO) of Manila shall facilitate the provision of accommodation, meals, and other activity materials, which will be funded through the Basic Education Curriculum Funds.
8. The report on the conduct of activity, including utilization of funds, shall be submitted to the Learning Systems Strand no later than a month after conclusion of the activity.
9. In line with DepEd Order No. 009, s. 2025 titled Instituting Measures to Increase Engaged Time-on-Task and Ensuring Compliance, all activities in connection with NBW 2025 shall strictly adhere to the No Disruption of Classes Policy. While selected learners, teachers, and supervisors will be joining the said activities, school heads shall ensure that their participation does not compromise the conduct of teaching and learning. Class schedules must be properly managed to minimize interruptions in school operations.
