2023 PRINCESS MAHA CHAKRI AWARDS

1. On Her Royal Highness (HRH) Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn's 60th Birthday Anniversary Celebration in 2015, the Princess Maha Chakri Award (PMCA) was established in recognition of HRH's contribution, commitment, and devotion to education particularly the teachers. HRH is widely known for her dedication to educational development, continuous efforts to provide opportunities for disadvantaged children and youth in remote areas and to improve their occupations and quality of life by means of education. These efforts have been made over many years, generating benefits both at the national and international levels.

 

2. The PMCA is an award given to outstanding public teachers of 11 Countries in Southeast Asia (ASEAN + Timor Leste) who have made significant impact to students' lives. It aims to promote excellent practices to inspire and serve as examples for other teachers in Southeast Asia. The PMCA particularly aims to

 

a. honor Her Royal Highness (HRH) Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn for her outstanding achievements in the field of education and in the development of the quality of life, especially for the disadvantaged;

b. honor and give recognition to dedicated teachers in Southeast Asia whose outstanding achievements generate benefits to education and human development and deserve international recognition;

c. support the development of the teaching profession and educational development; and

d. strengthen international relations in the field of education.

 

3. The Award is given every two years since 2015. The PMCA Foundation has worked closely with the Ministry of Education of 11 countries in the selection process of teacher-awardees. The Award particularly focuses on teachers who have made considerable impact on the development and lives of the learners, the learners from disadvantaged groups in the remote areas which is the main emphasis on HRH's work.

 

4. The PMCA Foundation provides the general criteria to the Ministry of Education of the 11 countries. The PMCA's General Criteria include the following:

 

a. Outstanding achievement which generates benefits to education and human development;

b. Active in teaching or administering at the primary or secondary levels; and 

c. Has inspired fellow teachers with their dedication o students in the country.

 

5. While the PMCA Foundation provides the general crit ria ach respective Ministry of Education will et up its own criteria and procedure for election. As for the Philippines, the PMCA Screening Committee will follow the following criteria:

 

a. Participation in community and civic movement most especially where education is least accessible;

b. Innovation in teaching has benefited in communities where he/she has taught· and

c. Ability to inspire, promote and sustain the development of students and fellow teach r through their decision.

 

6. Teacher applicants are directed to submit pertinent documents enclosed in their portfolio/ documentation which shall likewise include the following:

 

a. Updated Personal Data heet (CS Form 212)

b. 1,500 words es ay by the nominee why he/ she should receive the Award,

c. Letter of nomination addressed to the Secretary, Leonor Magtolis Briones (attention: Director Margarita Consolacion C. Ballesteros, International Coop ration Office) signed by the Regional Director or its duly authorized official and

d. Matrix to summarize the activities done award received and accomplishment re1evant to the award accompanied by supporting documents (spell out acronyms of organizers and topic/s or subjects of the training; certificate of training need not be submitted).

 

7. The following documents are enclosed for reference:

 

a. Enclosure No. 1 Composition of the PMCA Selection Process (DepEd Representative)

b. Enclosure No. 2 - PMCA Selection Timeline and the Philippines Selection Process, and

c. Enclosure No. 3 Matrix of Awards and Achievements for the PMCA.

 

8. Immediate dissemination of this Memorandum is desired.
