Secretary Leonor Magtolis Briones said:

“These Gabaldon school buildings are historical structures where generations of Filipinos first experienced the light of knowledge and wisdom. We must preserve these structures and even promote them as a reminder of our nation’s rich history.”

Undersecretary for Administration Alain Del B. Pascua also said:

“In support of the Gabaldon School Buildings Conservation Act and DepEd’s own Gabaldon Schoolhouse Conservation Project, the contest aims to emphasize the pivotal role of Gabaldon Schools in shaping the nation’s public school system. Moreover, it hopes to instill among the younger generation that sense of place and pride and for them to treasure their time in these historical edifices as much as their ancestors did,”

The competition is open to all public primary and secondary schools that have the Gabaldon Heritage school building. The competition is divided into three categories. The best Gabaldon photos will be rewarded for entries highlighting the entire Gabaldon building and its design. In addition, it is subdivided into the best oldest photos and the best contemporary photos.

At the same time, the second category is Gabaldon's best books, and its subcategories have historical significance, famous student/teacher and personal experience. While standard technical writing practices are followed, writing should be structured in the third person.

Finally, the contest will also recognize the best Gabaldón video. Video inputs are best done in Filipino, but English or any native language is allowed as long as there are Filipino subtitles. The video must be in 1080p, mp4 format, with a duration of 2.5 to 4 minutes, including subtitles. The video subcategories are documentary, close-up, portrait, and animation.

All entries must be emailed to efd.as@deped.gov.ph and usec.admin@deped.gov.ph no later than 5:00 pm on July 25, 2021. There are 14 winners, 28 finalists and 70 finalists will be selected.

The winner will appear in the Gabaldon Coffee Table Book and the Gabaldon Full Documentary which will be released on December 21, 2021. Winning and finalist entries will also appear at DepEd Headquarters and at the Exhibition of Masters of Baguio at the Camp`s Museum (BTC) Gabaldon, where they will be permanently exhibited.
