Observance of The National Indigenous Peoples Month 2024

  

The DepEd Memorandum No. 060, s. 2024 marks the observance of National Indigenous Peoples (IP) Month in October 2024, in line with Presidential Proclamation No. 1906. This year’s theme, "Katutubong Filipino: Pagtibayin ang Tagumpay 2030" emphasizes the role of Indigenous Cultural Communities (ICCs)/IPs in preserving intangible cultural heritage (ICH) and highlights the connection between IP creativity and nature. DepEd encourages all regional and division offices, as well as schools, to participate in various activities, including social media campaigns and events that promote visibility for IP culture. Separate guidance will be provided to schools implementing the IP Education Program.

OBSERVANCE OF THE NATIONAL INDIGENOUS PEOPLES MONTH 2024

1. Pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No. 1906, October is declared as National Indigenous Peoples (IP) Month in recognition and protection of the rights of Indigenous Cultural Communities (ICCs)/IPs.

 

2. This 2024, the theme Katutubong Filipino: Pagtibayin ang Tagumpay 2030 (Indigenous Filipinos: Strengthening the Success by 2030) highlights how both the creativity of the IP and the richness of nature sustain and strengthen intangible cultural heritage (ICH). The celebration will gather approximately 270 representatives from the IP and cultural communities in various activities, including forums, fairs, demonstrations, and performances promoting the visibility of the Philippine ICH, particularly its linkages with nature and the creativity of the IP.

 

3. All regional offices (ROs), schools division offices (SDOs), and schools are urged to take part in related activities for the promotion of the observance, such as

 

a. sharing and posting of ICH and IP-month-related activities and content, including the official poster, Facebo6k banner/s, calendar of activities including photos, videos, news features, and other collaterals released through the National Commission on Culture and the Arts (NCCA) website (https://ncca.gov.ph/), and Facebook Page (https://www.facebook.com/NCCAOfficial/) using the hashtag #Dayaw2024 and #KatutubongFilipinoPagtibayinAngTagumpay2030; and

 

b. for ROs, SDOs, and schools implementing the IP Education Program, a separate issuance will be released regarding the IP Month observance relevant to the Indigenous Peoples Education Program while aligned with the initiative of the NCCA.

 

4. Kindly fill out the 2024 National IP Month Activity Form through https://forms.gle/qyRbjNkygAeX4LyV8 for inclusion in the calendar of activities on or before October 11, 2024 (Friday).

 

5. The 2024 National IP Month reference materials can be accessed through https://shorturl.at/ZOrC9. Activity implementation reports with high-quality photos shall be submitted to sccta@ncca.gov.ph in a Word document with the following details for inclusion in the 2024 National IP Month Booklet on or before November 8, 2024 (Friday).

 

6. Expenses incurred relative to the conduct of activities shall be charged to local funds, subject to the usual accounting and auditing rules and regulations.
