2023 NATIONAL HERITAGE MONTH CELEBRATION

1. Presidential Proclamation No. 439, s. 2003 declared May of every year as the National Heritage Month (NHM) and should be celebrated annually. Relative thereto, the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) announces the observance of the 2023 National Heritage Month. This year's theme, innovates to preserve products of human creativity and recognize the need to create consciousness, respect, and love for the legacies of Filipino cultural history.

 

2. The theme highlights four (4) sub-themes:

 

a. Sustainable Heritage Management: the practice of managing change and risk in heritage and maximizing its social, cultural, and economic benefits for the current and future generations;

 

b. Heritage Science: an interdisciplinary domain of study involving the use of innovative and creative interventions in the understanding, conservation, and use of heritage;

 

c. Intangible Cultural Heritage: intergenerational transmission and the provision of a sense of identity across time, where transmission relies upon constant re-creation in the present context; and

 

d. Urban Heritage: the conservation of urban heritage in the context of managing urban growth and change in 21st century cities.

 

3. All schools, schools division offices (SDOs), and regional offices (ROs) are encouraged to support the 2023 NHM by undertaking related activities, such as but not limited to:

 

a. active use, posting, and sharing of the 2023 NHM advocacy materials, including the Official 2023 NHM Poster, Facebook Banner/s, and 2023 NHM Calendar of Activities in all schools divisions' and schools' website and social media accounts;

 

b. participating in the online campaign thread about the 2023 NHM celebration by sharing heritage-related content, including photos, videos, news features, and other collaterals released by the NCCA and NHM Facebook Pages (facebook.com/nationalheritagemonthph) using the hashtags #NHM2023 and #NHMChangeAndContinuity;

 

c. use of various online audio-visual programs and content related to heritage such as Dayaw, Philippine Heritage Awards, and previous videos of National Heritage Month as part of instructional materials for students, accessible through the NCCA Learning Hub (https://www.nccalearninghub.com) and/or NHM Facebook Page (https://www.facebook.com/nationalheritagemonthph);

 

d. organizing own NHM activities and participating in heritage-related events such as seminars, webinars, workshops, lectures, and exhibits; and

 

e. activity implementation reports with high-quality photos shall be submitted to nhmsecretariat@gmail.com in a word document file with the following details for inclusion in the NHM 2023 Souvenir Program on or before June 16, 2023, Friday:

 

• Name of Institution              • Venue of Activity

• Date of Activity                    • Brief Description of Activity

 

4. All schools, SDOs, and ROs organizing their own NHM 2023 activities are also requested to fill out the 2023 NHM Activity Proposal Form and send the final information to the NHM Secretariat for inclusion in the Calendar of Activities on or before March 31, 2023, Friday. The NHM 2023 reference materials can be accessed through https://bit.ly/NHM2023Ref. For easier consolidation, the activities may be accomplished along with the submission of the agency's high-resolution logo through https://bit.ly/NCCANHM2023ASF.

 

5. Participation of learners and teachers from public and private schools shall be purely voluntary and not hamper instructional time in compliance with the provisions of DepEd Order (DO) No. 34, s. 2022 titled School Calendar and Activities for the School Year 2022-2023 and DO 9, s. 2005 titled Instituting Measures to Increase Engaged Time-on-Task and Ensuring Compliance Therewith.
