To highlight the role of scientific research in responding to current global challenges and pandemic issues, the Department of Education (DepEd) will hold the virtual 2021 National Science and Technology Fair (NSTF) from August 31 to September 3. The theme of "Agham, Pananaliksik of Teknolohiya: Kabalikat sa Matatag of Maunlad na Pamayanan", which aims to showcase students' resilience, innovation and creativity in the global crisis through virtual science fairs and competitions.
Education Secretary Leonor Magtolis Briones said,
We cannot talk about quality education without also teaching or nurturing our learners in the intricacies of technology and communication, creativeness, and invention,she cited the importance of the NSTF.
The annual fair is a place for knowledge exchange, community participation and industry cooperation among students, teachers, industry partners and scientific experts. NSTF activities include (1) Siyensikula, an original video production competition focusing on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) concepts; (2) SciTalks, a conference composed of local and international STEM celebrities; (3) AghambayaniJuan, Public community exhibition of science, technology, research and innovation partners.
As we are experiencing a pandemic, DepEd is more committed to raising our students through science education. NSTF will be a platform for them to showcase innovative ideas that can help others make informed decisions based on scientific evidence.

At the same time, the Curriculum Development Bureau noted that the NSTF will provide a snapshot of what students did during this period and what they actually learned.
NSTF 2021 will host various other virtual events, such as exhibitions, panel discussions, and movie screenings. The event will be organized using an online platform in cooperation with the Gokongwei Brothers Foundation (GBF) and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), and will be streamed live on the Facebook page of the Ministry of Education.
