As part of the 123rd anniversary of the Department of Education (DepEd), the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Services (DRRMS) and the Office of Human Resources and Organizational Development-Employee Welfare Division (BHRODEWD) organized a community food pantry for the Central Office Staff on Friday.
Secretary Leonor Magtolis Briones said,
“As we celebrate our anniversary, we want to relive the spirit of Bayanihan with our personnel and stakeholders. It is wonderful to see that the entire Department is helping each other, ensuring that everyone is healthy and safe in these trying times.”
While complying with the required health procedures, DRRMS, with the help of administrative services, provided employees with vegetables, staple food and other food packs in a simple food storage room opposite the Rizal Hall of the central office.
the Education Chief said,
“We are encouraging our field offices to join us in highlighting the spirit of Bayanihan by continuously helping our colleagues and assisting our community.”
In April of last year, several community pantries organized by students, teachers and DepEd staff appeared across the country, including a pantry that provided reading and learning materials to help students overcome the pandemic.
DRRMS Director Ronilda Co said that,
“This Community Pantry is one of our ways to help our employees during this pandemic. We want to show them the spirit of Bayanihan and that our DepEd family is ready when they need our help.”
In addition to the pantry initiative, DRRMS has also been at the forefront of departmental mental health programs and activities.
This year, the department's anniversary theme "Bayanihan for sa Edukasyon" recognizes teaching and non-teaching staff, parents, stakeholders, partners and communities for their help and support in continuing education during the pandemic, assuming education as a shared responsibility.
